Time analysis of the handover procedure in a Bluetooth network

In this work the handover in a Bluetooth scatternet is studied. The procedure of inquiry defined by the Bluetooth standard to create and manage an adhoc network could be used also to perform the handover but is too slow to keep the communication active. Here a procedure on-demand, based on an accurate paging, is proposed. The parameters needed to perform the handover are exchanged when necessary, thus not requiring to store informations on the devices. The handover performance is studied by giving the statistical description of the time needed to terminate it. It will be shown the feasibility of the handover in a reasonable time, suitable to support many of the applications with asynchronous communications envisaged by Bluetooth.
